A Pulley Garden Party & Fundraiser
Recently, on August 5th, Pulley Editor and Co-founder Frances McCue hosted a garden party and fundraiser for Pulley Press.
Ricardo Ruiz
…who wrote We Had Our Reasons, read several beautiful poems from the collection and spoke about what it meant to him to know that writing and publishing poetry from his community of Eastern Washington Mexican farm workers was an option.
Kevin Chesser
….whose collection (Please Consider These) Alternate Names for the Moon is newly released as of October 6th, also joined us for a reading. Flying into Seattle from West Virginia, Kevin read some funny and heart-wrenching poems after getting to hold an early proof copy of his collection for the first time.
During the breaks, the Pulley team had a table of books set up for sale. Alongside individual copies, these included the “Pulley Collection,” sets of all 11 Pulley Books (including an early release proof of Kevin Chesser’s) bound with twine and an individualized, hand-drawn label. Despite the physically and emotionally heavy atmosphere of wildfire smoke, it was a beautiful evening, and we are so grateful to Kevin and Ricardo for reading, and to everyone who joined us, bought books, or donated towards our efforts to support more rural poets across America.
